Easy Apple Pie with Salted Caramel Sauce

I had so much fun making this recipe with my boys. We made it super simple by using prepared pie dough and salted caramel sauce. Even with those additions this is by all accounts a homemade pie, just so much easier.

Easy Apple Pie with Salted Caramel Sauce Recipe

Ingredients:

6 to 8 apples (peeled, cored, cut in 1 ½ inch pieces)

Juice of 1 lemon

granulated sugar (for sprinkling over pie before baking)

½ cup brown sugar

½ teaspoon cinnamon

2 tablespoons flour

1 dash salt

1 tablespoon heavy cream

1 package of 2 prepared pie crusts

¼ cup prepared salted caramel sauce

Instructions:

In a large mixing bowl, squeeze lemon over apple slices and mix gently

Melt butter in large pan over medium heat, add brown sugar and stir until melted

Add apples and stir gently to coat in syrup

Add cinnamon and a dash of salt

(Do not cook apples, simply coat in warm syrup add cinnamon and salt, then quickly remove from heat)

Place apples in a large mixing bowl, gently stir flour, 1 tablespoon at a time to apples

Unroll 1 pie crust (thawed according to package directions) onto floured surface

Roll dough to fit pie plate with 1-inch overhang

Spoon apples into crust-lined pie plate.

Roll top with second crust on floured surface. Cut fall decorations using cookie cutters (optional).

Top pie with second crust. Wrap excess top crust under bottom crust edge, pressing edges together to seal. (Cut slits in top crust if not using decorative cookie cutter shapes)

Using fingers or a pastry brush, lightly coat top of pie with heavy cream

Sprinkle granulated sugar over top crust

Bake about 40 minutes or until crust is golden brown and apples are tender. Use a pie ring or cover edge of crust with strips of foil after first 15 to 20 minutes of baking to prevent excessive browning.

Cool 1-2 hours

Drizzle pie with salted caramel sauce

Serve warm or room temperature with a scoop of vanilla bean ice cream
